Hello there. Well it is good to be back in the blogging world and although this will be a short post I do have some very exciting news!
The weekend saw the preview and opening of our very own Contemporary Arts Centre - Nottingham Contemporary. I have to admit that the building has grown on me after my initial comparison to a 'builders corregated shed' and the green and gold facade is quite striking - also incorporating a subtle pattern of lace which is so historically significant to Nottingham - see here for an image of the lace. The opening exhibition is of David Hockney's earlier works in one of the four large gallery spaces and there is also a large performance space and of course shop and cafe.
So...exciting for Nottingham of course...but also exciting for me! As I presently have a collection of my character sculptures in the display are of the shop. This is a collaboration between the Debbie Bryan Shop & Studio and Nottingham Contemporary with 6 selected designers showing 2 distinct collections of contemporary craft in each space in a 3 month showcase. (I will blog each individual character soon). So I have character sculptures in NC and new work in the form of 'dwellings' in Debbies Shop.
I haven't actually made it along to Nottingham Contemporary yet other than the day I dropped my work off to them (when all seemed chaotic in the fitting and setting up of the shop!) so haven't seen my characters in situ, however I do hope to make it along sometime this week.
PS - things are currently a little chaotic here(even more so than usual) as Mark is recovering in hospital after quite substantial surgery after having been unwell for a few months - we were hoping he would be home yesterday but that hasn't happened yet and we are unsure when he will be home - so any positive vibes sent over our way would be wonderful at this time!
Many thanks x

Hey Gillian congrats that's fantastic, hopefully I'll make it along to Notts one day for a look at the new place. And oh dear poor Mark and you, that sounds fairly horrible, I hope he's doing better and can come home soon where I'm sure his recovery will be speeded up x
